LLL depositors can now make and receive faster payments on the New Payments Platform
Australians are now able to transfer money in near real-time – putting an end to frustrating payment delays – with financial institutions across the country introducing a New Payments Platform (NPP) for customers.
For example, if you want to transfer money to a friend or family member (once they're registered with faster payments on the NPP) you will no longer need to ask for their BSB and account number, and instead will just need their registered mobile phone number or email address (their PayID). BSB and account number transfers will still be available but will take around two days for the transfer to be complete.
Transactions will then be finalised almost instantaneously through the NPP, which will enable you to send and receive money in near real-time 24 hours a day, seven days a week throughout the entire year.

To register your PayID and for faster payments on the New Payments Platform, log into Internet Banking.
This new system has the potential to change the way we pay for everything from second-hand goods to paying a tradie or repaying a friend.
Tell me more about the NPP
- Fast – the NPP will allow you to make payments in near real-time, with funds available to the recipient almost immediately instead of the usual – one or two-day wait time.
- 24/7– the NPP is always open for business. You will be able to make and receive payments 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
- Simple addressing – a system within the NPP called PayID will enable you to easily send payments to any registered recipient. Your PayID will be your own unique identifier and could be a mobile phone number, email address or ABN. Note: when using PayID, the system will show you the recipient’s name before you authorise your payment, so you know you’re sending it to the right person. Read more about PayID.
- Data enriched – the ability to send more complete remittance information with payments.
- Secure – the NPP is extremely secure. It will be monitored 24 hours, seven days a week and is certified to the highest data security standards.
