Over 250 people attended a wonderful Advent Sunday Vespers worship service at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, Flinders Street, Adelaide, in December 2023.
The service included musical works JS Bach's cantata Meine Seel erhebt den Herren (My soul magnifies the Lord), BWV 10, sometimes called Bach's German Magnificat, and a newly commissioned exuberant work by Anna Zweck, also based on the Magnificat.
This was a superb performance in worship by the Adelaide Cantata Band (ACB) – Kim Worley, Bethlehem's own Choir Director is one of the principals of this group, along with Anna Webb and Andrew Georg.
The ACB was formed in 2017, and they present the dramatic and emotionally rich music of JS Bach's cantatas in vibrant, authentic performances with Baroque period instruments and outstanding vocal soloists, in both concert and liturgy.

The John Drama
In a wonderful display of community spirit and multi-denominational cooperation, St John's Lutheran Church was one of eight congregations that came together in Naracoorte to present The John Drama.
This inspiring event was performed as a theatre in the round at the Naracoorte Town Hall over two nights on Palm Sunday weekend.
Preparations and rehearsals for the 90-minute performance brought members of the local congregations together in fellowship, with the aid of Wycliffe Bible Translators.
The John Drama, which asks the question 'Who is Jesus? And why is he still one of the most controversial yet influential people in history?' was well-received by the crowd of nearly 400 people across both nights.
