A delightful stroll around picturesque North Adelaide, South Australia, made a real difference to the lives of refugee children in East Africa when LLL hosted an Australian Lutheran World Service (ALWS) Walk My Way event in October.

All funds raised, just over $3,600, went directly to ALWS, whose programs in impoverished East African nations help children gain an education they otherwise wouldn't have access to.

Staff and friends from neighbouring Lutheran organisations gathered at LLL headquarters in North Adelaide on a brisk Saturday morning to pick up their Walk My Way t-shirts and caps and enjoy a bacon and egg sandwich or vegetarian omelette breakfast, with Chief Relationship Officer Scott Ross on hand to offer a warm welcome.

"Partnerships are at the heart of everything we do," Scott said.

"LLL has partnered with ALWS to support its humanitarian efforts across the world for years, with grants, donations and sponsorships.

"In 2023, LLL made a $10,000 donation to ALWS to support the farm partnerships in Burundi and the micro-enterprise project in Nepal.

"Since its inception, LLL has sponsored and participated in ALWS organised Walk My Way initiatives.

"I would like to thank ALWS for inspiring all of us to positively impact the lives of communities around the world that are far less fortunate."

Setting off on the 10km walk from Archer Street, walkers made their way past the famous Light's Vision statue with spectacular views of the city on offer atop Montefiore Hill, past the iconic Adelaide Oval and down to the idyllic River Torrens.

A curious giraffe looked on as walkers made their way along the Torrens, which passes close by Adelaide Zoo, the route then winding back into the bustling Melbourne Street precinct and on to the north Park Lands where grazing horses graciously posed for photos.

Walkers took in grand, heritage-listed houses to their left and the manicured greenery of North Adelaide Golf Course to their right before arriving at the finish line at the Wellington Hotel.

Conversations on the sociable walk were picked up, and new experiences were shared in a convivial environment outside the historic pub that has stood in Wellington Square since 1851.

It was one of the latest examples of the success of the Walk My Way program, which has helped thousands of children get the education they deserve.
