Charitable Donation Program (Program)

The Charitable Donation Program creates a deeply meaningful connection between LLL, its customers and Christian organisations, powering difference-making projects and fostering community spirit throughout Australia. The Program empowers Supporters to make a meaningful impact by nominating a community organisation as their preferred beneficiary of the Charitable Donation Program. As part of the Program, interest^ that notionally accrues against Charitable Facilities held by Supporters is retained by the LLL, enabling it to make an Allocation of funds to a variety of community organisations that are Program beneficiaries. The Allocation is guided by the organisation's needs and missional objectives, with consideration given to Preferences expressed by Supporters.

The Charitable Donation Program plays a vital role in promoting positive change and supporting the mission of Christian communities, allowing them to flourish.

Supporter

The customer who opens and maintains a Charitable Facility and participates in the Program.

Beneficiary

The customer receiving an Allocation from LLL under the Program.

Allocation

The amount received by the Beneficiary from LLL under the Program.

The preferred Beneficiary nominated by the Supporter under the Program.

Cause

The project or program that the Beneficiary identifies as receiving the Allocation into their Facility or Loan.

Common FAQs

Questions relevant to both Supporters and Beneficiaries.

What is the Charitable Facility?

The Charitable Facility is an LLL investment option that lets you keep funds invested while forgoing the interest that would normally be paid to you. LLL then allocates funds to approved program beneficiaries, taking into account your non-binding nominated preference.

Who can invest in the Charitable Facility?

Eligible Supporters include individuals, families and organisations, subject to LLL's Terms and Conditions.

Supporter specific FAQs

Questions for Supporters participating in the Program.

Does my LLL Charitable Facility accrue any interest?

No, any interest on the Facility is foregone entirely. In lieu of paying you interest LLL will apply Allocations to Program Beneficiaries.

Is there a minimum or maximum investment limitation?

No, you may support participating Beneficiaries, including your preferred Cause, as little or as much as you see fit through holding funds in your LLL Charitable Facility.

I am a pensioner. Will participating in the Program affect my entitlements for my age pension?

Participating in the Program should not affect your pension entitlements. However, we recommend that you obtain independent financial advice that considers your unique circumstances.

What if the Cause I'd like to support isn't listed on the application form?

If the Cause or organisation you would like to support is not listed, please contact LLL. We welcome suggestions for new beneficiaries and may be able to explore whether the organisation can participate in the program. In the meantime, you can nominate an existing beneficiary and update your preference later if needed.

In order to be a Beneficiary of foregone interest as part of the Program, they must:

  • be tax exempt
  • be approved as an LLL Associate* customer
  • manage an LLL Facility and/or Loan.

Examples might include: Organisations, Christian Schools, Aged Care and Retirement Living Facilities, Camps, Groups and Churches or congregations and their ministries.

What kind of projects or Causes can a Beneficiary nominate for funding?

We encourage eligible Program Beneficiaries to dream big and be bold in their thinking in ways to uplift their communities. Projects might include:

  • Developing a new multi-purpose recreation space
  • Building a portable BBQ trailer for outreach activities
  • Enhancing multimedia facilities for podcasting and digital engagement
  • Supporting Parent and Friends group initiatives
  • Paying down an existing LLL Loan

Can I change the Cause I support?

Yes. You can change your nominated Cause or Beneficiary at any time by contacting LLL.

Will my nominated Cause receive all of my foregone interest?

You can nominate your preferred Cause or Beneficiary, but allocations remain at LLL's discretion. As part of the Program, interest foregone from funds maintained in a Charitable Facility by supporters enables LLL to allocate funds to a variety of community organisations as beneficiaries. The allocation is based on the organisation's needs and missional objectives, and in consideration of supporters' preferences.

What happens to my support when the project or Cause ends?

If your nominated project or Cause ends, LLL will use its discretion to direct support to the next most appropriate option - such as a similar cause, a general-purpose cause for that organisation, or another area of strong missional need, that either:

  • Aligns with your original preferred cause, or
  • Is a new cause or a general-purpose cause established by your preferred organisation, or
  • Has a strong need for missional funding.

What features does the Charitable Facility attract?

The Charitable Facility operates under the same Terms and Conditions as LLL's Notice of Withdrawal Facility, except that interest is not paid to the Supporter and LLL instead makes allocations under the Program.

Who can open a Charitable Facility?

Adults, children aged 12 years or older, and businesses**. The Facility may be set up with either single or joint signatories.

Can I choose to retain some of my interest held in a Charitable Facility?

No, all interest that notionally accrues against funds maintained in an LLL Charitable Facility are foregone entirely and retained by LLL. This enables LLL to allocate its funds to a variety of community organisations with reference to the organisation's needs, its missional objectives, and your Preferences.

Should you wish to accrue interest for personal wealth, it is suggested that a separate LLL Facility is opened and maintained.

What is the rate that is forgone with the Charitable Facility?

Interest on Charitable Facilities is calculated daily and allocated to the nominated Cause quarterly, at an interest rate that is equal to the interest rate of the LLL Notice of Withdrawal Facility.

Can I support multiple Causes?

Yes. You can support multiple Causes. Each Cause requires a separate Charitable Facility, so you may choose as many different Causes and organisations as you wish.

Will the Beneficiary be able to identify me as the Supporter?

No, the Allocation made to your Beneficiary by the LLL will be done so anonymously; they will only receive data showing Supporter numbers and total funding received.

How will I know how much impact my support has made?

LLL will provide a quarterly report containing the details of your Foregone Interest, and how your preferred Beneficiary has benefited through the Program.

How can I increase my support for my nominated cause?

You can increase your support by adding more funds to your Charitable Facility or by opening additional Charitable Facilities for other eligible Causes. You may also choose to share information about the Program with others who may wish to participate.

Can I withdraw my investment?

Yes. The Charitable Facility follows the same withdrawal terms as LLL's Notice of Withdrawal Facility, with withdrawals available after 31 days' written notice.

Beneficiary specific FAQs

Questions for organisations participating as Beneficiaries in the Program.

What are the minimum eligibility requirements to be a Beneficiary of the Program?

To be eligible as a Beneficiary of the Program, organisations must:

  • Be a tax-exempt organisation.
  • Be approved as an LLL Associate* customer
  • Maintain an LLL Facility and/or Loan.
  • Organisations may hold dual roles as both Benefactor and Supporter, provided these roles do not apply to the same Cause.

Can I nominate an external bank account to receive my organisation's Allocation?

No, an LLL Facility or Loan must be nominated to receive the Allocation; you can choose where the funds are received in a new or existing facility, either:

  • LLL Instant Access and/or LLL Notice of Withdrawal
  • LLL Loan

What fees or charges apply to the Program?

LLL Facilities do not attract fees or charges, and there are no separate fees for participating in the Program. Enjoy peace of mind that funds held in your facility and that of your Supporters won't be diminished by fees and charges.

After the Allocation is received, will it accrue interest?

It depends on the Facility you nominate.

If the Allocation is received in an LLL Instant Access or Notice of Withdrawal Facility, they attract interest the day after receipt. Funds received into an LLL Loan Facility will reduce the Beneficiary's Loan balance.

Can I raise funds for multiple Causes?

Yes. You can raise funds for numerous Causes. To ensure transparency about which Cause Supporters are supporting, we recommend operating separate LLL Facilities for each Cause, allowing these Causes to run simultaneously.

Are there any limitations on what I can raise funds for?

There is no set limit on eligible Causes, provided they are genuine and consistent with the Program's purpose and eligibility requirements. We encourage you to think boldly and bravely when considering a Cause that will benefit your community directly.

By participating in the Program your involvement does not reflect any other relationship with, or endorsement by, LLL Australia.

Will I be able to identify individual Supporters?

No, you will receive quarterly reports with anonymous data showing Supporter numbers and total funding received.

When will the Allocation be received in my Facility or Loan ?

LLL calculates the notional rate daily and distributes the Allocation quarterly on the last day of the quarter, i.e. 31 March, 30 June, 30 September and 31 December. The Allocation will be transferred to your nominated Facility or Loan shortly thereafter.

What happens to the Allocations once my Cause is complete?

You can update the Cause after completion to a new Cause or make it a general-purpose Cause. The choice is yours, though we recommend that you communicate this change to your community.

For Supporters, what are the features of an LLL Charitable Facility?

The Charitable Facility shares the same features as an LLL Notice of Withdrawal Facility, except that no interest accrues to a Supporter's facility, which is instead retained and applied at LLL's discretion each quarter to one or more of the Causes supported by LLL under the Program.
